Scotiabank Nuit Blanche 2015

As an official event photographer for the City of Toronto, I documented the 10th anniversary edition of Scotiabank Nuit Blanche. This city-wide, all-night contemporary art festival transforms public spaces into immersive cultural installations. My assignment required capturing monumental public art exhibits, nocturnal crowd interaction, and city-scale civic engagement across downtown Toronto.

Beyond documenting world-renowned French street artist JR’s massive Inside Out participatory portrait installations and his curated Black and White Night exhibition, my municipal coverage spanned multiple major artist projects across the city core. This included shooting immersive installations by prominent creators like Luis Jacob, Los Carpinteros, and Daniel Arsham. Crucially, my official municipal credentials granted me exclusive access to the observation deck of Toronto City Hall—a viewpoint closed to the general public—allowing me to capture unique, sweeping elevated perspectives of Nathan Phillips Square below. Operating on a strict overnight timeline, I completed a rapid on-site edit at dawn, delivering polished, high-resolution media packages to city communications teams by morning light for immediate press release syndication and media distribution. Documenting a massive overnight public art festival across urban streetscapes demands rigorous low-light mastery, physical endurance, and rapid-turnaround editorial execution. Therefore, my production scope included:

• Exclusive Elevated & Aerial Perspectives: Utilizing restricted access to the Toronto City Hall observation deck to frame rare, high-angle compositions of Nathan Phillips Square and the art installations below.
• Monumental Public Art Documentation: Capturing large-scale installations, sculptures, and video projections from featured 2015 artists including JR, Luis Jacob, Los Carpinteros, and Daniel Arsham.
• Nighttime Crowd Interaction & Civic Engagement: Preserving candid public interactions, interactive art participation, and nocturnal atmosphere under complex urban and artificial lighting.
• Overnight Editorial Turnaround & Press Delivery: Executing a rigorous on-site post-production workflow through the night to deliver press-ready assets by dawn for official city media releases and morning news cycles.
